Defending Human Rights: Global and Local Perspectives
Sigrid Rausing, writer, publisher, and founder of the Sigrid Rausing Trust set up to support international human rights was the keynote speaker at this conference held on 12th November 2010. Addressing human rights defence in a global context, she spoke alongside one of CAHR's visiting human rights fellows from Kenya. Their presentations were followed by a panel discussion on York as a 'human rights city', emphasising that the defence of human rights also has a local component.
William Parry: Against the Wall
On November 16th a packed room welcomed journalist and photographer Bill Parry to talk through his images of artwork and graffiti on Israel's Wall in the occupied West Bank. He showed a thought-provoking array of images interspersed his images with vignettes of the Palestinian communities affected by the Wall
