Refreshments + Write for Rights in York

Thursday 10 December is Human Rights Day. It is also the day that we team up with Tibet Support Group York to run the cafe and stalls at St Crux Hall in the city centre.

Fairly traded tea, coffee, cake and sandwiches (including vegetarian and gluten-free options) will be served from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. "Bejazzled" will perform live jazz music from 2.00 to 4.00 pm and books, bric-a-brac, plants, gifts, home-made festive chutneys and delicious cakes will be on sale all day. All proceeds will be divided equally between the two groups so everything will go to a very good cause.

Members of the public will also be able to write a postcard to a prisoner of conscience - for example political cartoonist Zunar who faces decades in prison for cartoons he posted on Twitter, which made fun of the decision to jail an opposition leader in Malaysia. This is part of "Write for Rights", one of the world’s biggest human rights events, when Amnesty International supporters all over the world write millions of letters and cards for people whose human rights are threatened.

The venue (shown in the photo) is at the bottom of the Shambles, near Marks & Spencer. The address is St Crux Parish Hall, Pavement, York YO1 9UP.
