Competition 2021

Locked in/out/up/down/unlocked? We invite you to enter our creative writing competition on the theme of "Locked".

The competition is for original, unpublished, fictional stories, poems or dramatic dialogues written in English with a maximum of 500 words. The theme of "Locked" can be set in any place or time.

Entrants must be 16 years of age or over and live in the UK. Entries should not have been short-listed in or won any other writing competitions. You may submit as many entries as you wish, each entry accompanied by the fee outlined below.

Submitting Your Entry: Given the presence of COVID-19, we will accept only online submissions. They must be double-spaced on numbered pages. The title, author's name, email and postal address, telephone number and word count should appear on the cover page. Only the title should appear in a footer at the bottom of each page. Submissions should be sent by email attachment as Word documents or PDFs. The author's name and the title of the work should appear in the subject line of the email, which you should send to yorkamnestywritingcompetition@gmail.com

Final Submission Date: 31 March 2021. Winner to be notified on 15 May 2021.

Judge: Salley Vickers. We will short-list submissions to 10 top entries before a final round is judged by Salley Vickers, Sunday Times best-selling author of The Librarian and, most recently, Grandmothers.

The winning writer will receive £50.00 and the top ten finalists will receive signed copies of Grandmothers. We will publish the top 5 entries on our website. Depending upon circustances at the time, we will also hold an online event featuring these entries.

UPDATE: Early in May 2021 we will publish the top entries on our new website - not this one.
