Mehriban Rahimli (a human rights defender from Azerbaijan) and Peter Allen (a member of Frack Free Ryedale) spoke about the right to protest, at a public meeting on Tuesday 16 February organised by us and the University of York's Centre for Applied Human Rights. The audience learnt how the rights to protest and freedom of assembly are under threat in Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom and how the oil and gas industries wield their power across the globe.

February Monthly Meeting

Gerald Hayo is the guest speaker at our monthly meeting this month at the usual venue - the Friends Meeting House, Friargate, York YO1 9RL. She will speak about her work on the rights of lesbian, bisexual and queer women in Kenya - with a focus on health rights. It takes place on Tuesday 13 February, starts at 7 p.m. with Gerald's talk followed by questions and answers and then continues (from 8 p.m.) with our group's regular business. Everyone is welcome to attend and, if they like, to leave after Gerald's talk.
